Network Security Management in Universities in Kenya

Network security involves the practice of establishing, implementing and maintaining the safety of information asset within inter-connected computing nodes of an organization; to safeguard confidentiality, integrity and full-time availability of the computing resources that it supports.  Today, fast computer networks have made the universities’ data to remain accessible and sharable faster than ever before,hence increased information system security breached in universities in Kenya. This study, aimed at determining the elements of network security and investigate how the elements are implemented within the universities in Kenya. The study is descriptive in nature, and adopted a review of the already published journals in the field of information systems' security, including: information security strategic management practices, ICT systems adopted and value within universities. The study found that: the highlighted elements of network security were not adequately implemented within the universities. It recommends that the foundation for effective management of network security should be high concentration on network security management best practices around the elements of network security as well as a functional security policy.
